Fire News

Yesterday Matt and I went up to the hatchery at 1:30. He had a meeting in the morning so we had to go a little later in the day. I contacted Sean about doing water quality samples before going up there. As a result of our communication Bruce and Cyril from NMFS decided to join me. Bruce has a meeting with NOAA regional staff today and wanted to give them an updated report on the condition of the hatchery, fish and water quality first hand. Cyril tested the water supply at the raceway headbox  for Dissolved Oxygen, Temp and pH. All were in acceptable ranges.

They left empty water sample bottles and the water quality sensor for me for do daily readings. I will taking a water sample to the NMFS lab at the end of each day. Flow at the Big Creek diversion dam has returned to normal. Matt walked up the hill along the whole Berry Creek line to inspect the damage - it is completely gone settling box and all. Only the grate up at the intake remains. It is still very smoky and uncomfortable to be up there for any length of time. Fires are still burning near by. There may be a chance Swanton may be open on Aug 23.

Matt and I are meeting today around 12:30 to go up there again. I am only going to stay a short while due to the dinner tonight. I will give an update of the hatchery at the Dave's retirement dinner tonight.
